Tell us about your company. What problem are you trying to solve?

Inlightened is a healthcare innovation network, on a mission to bridge the critical knowledge gap in the healthcare sector. We recognize the vital need for deep, practical insight in the innovation process. Inlightened’s SaaS platform seamlessly connects a rigorously vetted network of healthcare professionals with cutting-edge healthcare companies. By doing so, we are empowering these organizations to garner essential advice, consultation, and market research. In essence, Inlightened is driving forward healthcare innovation and ensuring responsible, informed disruption within the industry by fostering direct, meaningful collaborations between healthcare professionals and industry stakeholders.

How did your company get started?

Our journey at Inlightened began with a shared insight. Both my co-founder, Michelle Higginson, and I (Shelli Pavone, CEO & Co-Founder) have extensive backgrounds in diverse healthcare sectors, including big pharma, medical device industries, and healthcare technology startups. Through our unique yet similar experiences — mine across various sectors and Michelle’s at Boston Children’s Hospital — we continually observed a significant disconnect. Companies were developing groundbreaking healthcare solutions, yet a gap persisted between these innovators and the very providers, professionals, and patients intended to benefit from these advancements.
 
Recognizing this, Michelle and I united with a shared vision to bridge this chasm. We believed that leveraging our combined knowledge, experience, and networks could create a platform to facilitate seamless communication and collaboration between healthcare innovators and professionals. This belief laid the foundation for Inlightened, an initiative dedicated to advancing healthcare innovation by ensuring that knowledge and insights flow unimpeded between all stakeholders in the healthcare ecosystem.

Why is your team well-positioned to solve the problem you’re tackling?

At Inlightened, our team is not just a group of professionals; we are individuals with firsthand experience in the healthcare sector, collectively bringing a wealth of insight and understanding to the challenges at hand. Each team member has personally witnessed the detrimental effects resulting from the disconnect within the healthcare system. But more importantly, we have also observed the transformative change that can unfold when meaningful collaboration and connection between innovators and experts are nurtured.

Our diverse backgrounds in various facets of healthcare equip us with a multi-dimensional perspective and a comprehensive understanding of the ecosystem. This positions us uniquely to not just identify the issues, but also to design and implement effective solutions that support our clients’ needs.

What’s the biggest lesson you’ve learned along the way?

One profound lesson echoed in our early stages by our advisor, Dr. Kevin Ban, holds substantial weight in our journey: ‘Ideas are a dime a dozen, it’s the execution that matters.’ This wisdom remains front and center as we navigate our journey. Amidst the clamor of industry updates, funding news, and unsolicited advice, maintaining a resolute focus on our unique path and execution is paramount.

Inlightened’s course is defined by our commitment to exceptional execution. We have learned to gracefully sidestep the distractions of external noise, channeling our energies into perfecting the execution of our ideas. This approach enables us to consistently enhance our offering and contribute substantially to bridging the knowledge gap in healthcare, reaffirming our belief that indeed, successful execution transcends even the most groundbreaking ideas.

What resources do you rely on to help your company grow?

Among the resources that bolstered Inlightened’s growth, Shoobx stands out prominently. Early in our journey, Michelle and I, driven by a penchant for organization, adopted Shoobx to centralize our essential documents. This organized approach proved invaluable in our subsequent stages, ensuring streamlined access and management of vital information. For team collaboration, we employ Slack, which greatly enhances our internal communication and project management.

Additionally, my longstanding membership with Pavilion, a professional community and e-learning platform, has significantly fueled both my personal and professional growth. The bonds forged and the insights gained through Pavilion are instrumental in Inlightened’s evolution. The diverse paths and experiences shared within this community enrich my perspective, enabling me and, by extension, our team, to flourish, learn, and swiftly translate fresh ideas into action. The immeasurable value of a supportive community, epitomized by Pavilion, has played an indispensable role in our continuous growth and learning at Inlightened.

Anything else you’d like to share?

To all the entrepreneurs immersed in the hustle, feeling exhaustion and defeat amid stories of others’ success: persevere. Continue to lay each brick of your vision with resilience. Remember, for every headline-grabbing unicorn, countless other companies are achieving significant success quietly, without widespread acclaim or the label of rarity.

Please tell us about your experience with Shoobx. How has the platform helped your business?

As I mentioned, we started working with Shoobx very early in our journey. Initially drawn to its organizational capabilities and the straightforward integration of legal services, we swiftly recognized the extensive value encapsulated in Shoobx’s offerings. The platform’s comprehensive repository of ready-made forms and legal documents, with outlined legal workflows not only streamlined our operations but also resulted in substantial cost savings.
